Speaker Bio

Madeline is a Partner in the Health, Aged Care and Retirement Living team at Thomson Geer and Deputy Chair of the Queensland Law Society Elder Law Committee. She acts for aged care providers, retirement living operators and disability service providers, with a particular focus on regulatory compliance, administrative law and dispute resolution. Madeline is also an Ambassador for Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) Next Gen. As a member of LASA Next Gen’s Advisory Council and Co-Chair of the LASA Next Gen Events & Communications Committee, Madeline has a leadership role within this engaging network of young aged care leaders and regularly contributes to publications, presentations and events aimed at attracting and retaining emerging leaders in aged care. Legal directory Doyles Guide has listed Madeline as a leading (2020 – 2021) and recommended lawyer (2019) in Queensland in Health and Aged Care.

Abstract 

This session will explore recent and upcoming changes in retirement living regulation across jurisdictions and recent Tribunal decisions.  Specifically:

• Analysis of the impact of recent changes made to retirement village laws
• Exploring proposed changes in jurisdictions with regulatory reviews underway and likely impact on future trends
• Examining recent Tribunal decisions and what operators can take away to strengthen their operations for the future
• Impact of aged care reforms on regulatory regime and financial structures for villages.
