Dr Nick Hartland PSM is the First Assistant Secretary of the Home and Residential Division at Department of Health.
Nick’s key focus is supporting greater independence and wellness for senior Australians receiving aged care services. Nick is responsible for the reform work to improve aged care services at home and in residential care. This includes:
- The design, development and implementation to establish a single support at home program which will replace the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, Home Care Packages, Short Term Restorative Care, and Residential Respite
- Implementation of the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) funding model for residential aged care
- Commissioning a new single assessment workforce
- Development, implementation and the management of efficient, effective and sustainable funding programs for home and residential care.
In 2020, Nick was responsible for leading the Australian Government’s response to support to older Australians staying at home during COVID-19 through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, Home Care Packages and My Aged Care.
Previous roles Nick has held include Chief of Staff to the Hon Ken Wyatt, AM, MP, Minister for Seniors and Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Affairs; First Assistant Secretary of the Health Economics and Research Division, and First Assistant Secretary of the Aged Care Policy and Regulation Division.
