Navigating old age with a Map and a Compass – Understanding the need for meaning in the lives of people as they age.
Aging is a profound journey that spans a significant portion of our lives, ranging from 60 to 100 and beyond. It is also a time when transitions, both incremental and abrupt can happen faster than at any other time in life. As we navigate these transitions, understanding the essence of meaning becomes paramount -– it’s the compass that can guide us constructively through the evolving landscape of aging.
The Map of Meaning provides a rigorously researched framework that helps individuals, and those that care for them, understand and take charge of the meaning in their lives.
It helps individuals identify their unique meaning needs, enabling them to seek out new sources of significance even when familiar ones fade away. Moreover, for organisations and professionals working with older individuals, understanding these meaning needs is a profound way to connect with the essence and dignity of each person. It empowers them to design programs and activities that rekindle and enrich what makes their life worth living.
Whether you are an individual navigating your own journey of aging, a caregiver offering support on a personal level, or a professional crafting programs and services for older individuals, Lani Morris’s interactive presentation on the Map of Meaning offers both stimulation, practical insights and inspiration.
